Each piece melds experiences and influences to produce an integration of wood, metal, fiber and polymer with ceramics to create a unique tactile visual. As a designer, with each piece, it is investigating layers, textures, color, positives and negatives. Layers of material, the hues of different wood/metal, and glazes. What types of shadows will be created from the layers, internally and from external light when introduced? Positive and negative – textures coming out, going in, creating visually stimulating surfaces. Each piece explores the relationship between all these elements to create a ceramic piece that is unique and differentiated.
